Vela supports international sellers using Etsy and Shopify by making it easier to manage listings, pricing, and product data across multiple shops.
However, some settings—like currency, tax rules, tariffs, language display, and domestic vs. global pricing—must still be managed directly within your selling platforms.

This guide explains what you can and can’t manage in Vela, plus best practices for multilingual and multi-currency listings.

1. Currency management

Vela currently displays all prices in USD ($) because it operates in the United States.
This does not affect your shop’s actual prices or currency.

What You Should Know

  • Your listings’ prices remain in your shop’s native currency (e.g., CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD, etc.).
  • Vela’s interface shows prices in USD for consistency, but no currency conversion occurs.
  • You can safely edit prices in Vela—the updates will sync to your shop in its original currency.
  • If your shop operates outside the U.S., you may need to manually calculate prices in USD while editing in Vela.

Planned Improvements

Support for displaying prices in your shop’s local currency and for automatic conversions is in development.

2. Taxes and tariffs

Shopify Tax Settings

Vela supports enabling or disabling the “Charge Taxes” option on individual Shopify listings.

  • This setting cannot currently be updated in bulk.
  • If you need to apply tax settings to many listings, adjust them directly within Shopify.
  • Vela follows your existing Shopify tax configuration—no new tax rules are created or changed through Vela.

Tip: To confirm how Shopify handles regional tax rates, check your Shopify admin under Settings → Taxes and Duties.

Tariff Numbers (HS Codes)

At this time, Vela does not support adding, editing, or removing tariff numbers (HS codes).

  • If your Etsy or Shopify listings require tariff codes for international shipping, manage them directly in your shop.
  • Vela will sync existing tariff data already stored in your connected listings but cannot modify it.

3. Domestic and global pricing (Etsy)

Etsy currently limits how third-party tools like Vela can interact with Domestic and Global Pricing features.

Key Limitations

  • Vela cannot update or sync listings that use Etsy’s “Domestic and Global Pricing” feature.
  • To edit those listings in Vela, temporarily disable global pricing in your Etsy shop settings.
  • Once disabled, Vela can edit and sync your listings normally.
  • We’re actively working with Etsy’s engineering and product teams to enable full compatibility in a future release.

FAQ:
Can I set different prices for domestic and international customers?
Not yet. Etsy does not currently allow third-party tools to manage separate domestic and global prices.
We’re in ongoing collaboration with Etsy to make this feature available in Vela soon.

4. Translation and language support

Vela does not perform any automatic translation of listing data.
If you are seeing unexpected translations in the Vela interface, this is typically due to browser-based translation tools such as Google Translate.

To Fix Translation Issues

  1. Check whether Google Translate (or another browser translation feature) is active.
  2. Temporarily disable translation for the Vela site.
  3. Refresh your browser and verify that your listings appear in their original language.

After disabling browser translation, Vela will display all text exactly as stored in your connected shop.

Working with Multiple Languages

  • You can edit listings in any language your shop supports.
  • To add or update translated content, switch your shop’s language context in Etsy or Shopify first, then sync updates to Vela.
  • Vela will reflect all translations already present in your shop but will not generate new ones automatically.

5. Character limits

Each selling platform—and sometimes each country—has its own field limits.
Vela currently enforces U.S.-based Etsy limits to ensure compatibility across all accounts. Support for country-specific limits is planned for later this year.

Current Limits by Etsy field (US Standard)

Title 140 characters

Tags 20 characters per tag

Description 10,000 characters (Emojis and special characters may count as multiple characters)

Tip: When editing listings for non-U.S. markets, keep titles and tags concise to avoid truncation when syncing to Etsy.

6. eBay international support

Vela currently supports eBay US, eBay UK, and eBay Canada.

  • Each eBay region requires a separate integration, as eBay handles marketplaces independently.
  • Additional regions are in development—eBay Australia and eBay Hong Kong support are planned for release later this year.
  • You can continue managing listings in these regions directly through eBay until those integrations are available.

Can I display my shop’s currency in Vela?
Not yet. Vela shows all prices in USD, but your shop’s prices remain in their original currency.

Will Vela convert my prices automatically?
No. Prices are not converted. You can manually enter equivalent USD values if needed.

Can I bulk-edit taxes in Shopify through Vela?
Not currently. You can only toggle “Charge Taxes” individually per listing.

Can I manage tariff numbers in Vela?
No. Tariff codes must be managed directly in Etsy or Shopify.

Why is Vela translating my listings?
Vela doesn’t translate content. If text appears translated, disable Google Translate or other browser translation extensions and refresh.

Why did my tag get rejected even though it’s valid in my country?
Vela enforces the U.S. Etsy limit of 20 characters per tag. Country-specific limits will be added later this year.

Can I set different domestic and international prices?
Not yet. Etsy’s current API restrictions prevent Vela from editing listings with Domestic/Global Pricing enabled.
